- Biography -

ESPA is a self-taught artist born on the Reunion island and raised in the suburbs of Paris, France. In 2019, ESPA moved to Saint-Martin with his family to pursue a business venture that did not take off.

With little savings left and an ever-growing passion for street art, ESPA began to help local businesses to redesign their menu slates, interiors, and storefronts.

In September 2019, ESPA completed his first oversize piece, a 30-sq.m. vertical mural on the wall of a pet store in Marigot. The project brought overnight exposure with locals, and quickly, businesses and individuals on the island started reaching out to commission projects with ESPA.

In December 2019, ESPA took part in the launch of Wall Art Saint-Martin, an association that enhances the island’s colors and spreads a vibrant message to the community through placemaking.

During the March 2020 lockdown, with the absence of street art opportunities and wanting to lift up spirits on the island, ESPA launched his poster project centered around Saint Martin’s identity. In December 2020, after the French Navy (Marine Nationale) got wind of his work and ordered him a series of visuals, ESPA was able to open the Pop Up Store in Marigot to exhibit part of his artwork and showcase his murals.

The Pop Up Store’s concept constantly evolves to follow the artist’s inspirations and is best described as a laboratory of curiosities in which you will find original creations and limited editions, on a variety of mediums.

Today, ESPA is working to expand his Pop Up Store concept across Saint-Martin and beyond and continues to connect people with places with art and meaningful experiences.
